Discount calculator: sale price and savings

Enter the original price and a percentage. This discount calculator shows what you pay and how much you save. Enable a second discount to check an extra promotion applied to the already reduced price.

Online discount calculator

Ready-made example: 100 with a 20% discount becomes 80.

Use a comma or point for decimals: 19,90 or 19.90. Enter thousands without separators or with spaces.

Percentages must be between 0 and 100, with up to six decimal places.

Currency changes the display only; it does not convert exchange rates.

The final price is rounded to the currency's precision. Savings are the difference from the rounded original price.

How to use the discount calculator

Use the calculator to check a price reduction before buying, compare a promotion, or verify a quote. Start with the amount that is actually eligible for the discount. A coupon for one item should not be applied to the entire cart unless the seller's terms allow it. The result card separates the amount you pay from the money saved, so a large savings figure cannot be mistaken for the checkout price.

  1. Enter the original price without a currency symbol. Both 99.90 and 99,90 represent the same decimal amount.
  2. Enter the percentage as a number: use 25 for a 25% discount. Results update as you type; Calculate checks the fields again.
  3. If an additional percentage applies to the reduced price, enable the second discount and enter its rate. Read both stages in the result card.
  4. Copy the result to keep the price and formula, or copy the link to reopen the same inputs. Reset example restores 100 and 20%, with the second discount switched off.

Discount calculator formula for a single reduction

A 20% discount means that 80% of the original price remains payable. With an original price P and discount d, savings equal P × d / 100. Subtract those savings from P to get the final price. The compact formula below multiplies by the remaining share directly. Subtracting the number 20 from the price is different: 20 means a percentage here, not necessarily twenty units of money.

For an item priced at 150 with a 30% discount, savings are 150 × 30 / 100 = 45. The final price is 105. Add 105 and 45 to recover the original 150. This simple check helps spot a wrong percentage or an incorrect starting amount when comparing the discount calculator with a seller's price label.

Final price = P × (1 − d / 100)

Successive discounts in the discount calculator

Successive discounts are multiplied, not added. A 20% reduction followed by another 10% reduction applies the second rate to the 80% remaining after the first. Starting at 100, the first stage leaves 80. The second stage saves 8, leaving a final price of 72. Total savings are 28, so the effective discount is 28%, rather than 30%.

The remaining share is 0.80 × 0.90 = 0.72. Subtract that share from one to find the combined reduction. Reversing two percentage discounts gives the same final amount when there is no intermediate rounding. Real coupons may involve a fixed amount, a minimum spend, excluded products, or different rounding rules. This discount calculator models percentages only; check those conditions separately before treating a promotion as two successive rates.

Final P = P × (1 − d1 / 100) × (1 − d2 / 100)

Discount calculator examples and expected results

Use these examples as quick checks before entering more complicated prices. The first is a single reduction, the second includes a fraction of a cent, and the last shows a double discount. Amounts are shown in euros for consistency, with no shipping or extra charges. The same percentage formulas apply to another selected currency, although its display precision may change.

Compare sale offers by their final price

When comparing seasonal sales, use the final price of the same product rather than the largest advertised percentage. An item originally priced at 120 with 25% off costs 90. Another offer starting at 100 with 15% off costs 85. The second is cheaper despite the smaller percentage. Confirm that the model, quantity, warranty and selling conditions make the offers comparable.

Check the seller's stated reference price, coupon exclusions, and whether extra promotions can be combined. Shipping of 6 brings the cheaper item from 85 to a total of 91. Calculating the item reduction and comparing the checkout total are separate steps. Sale dates and pricing rules vary by place and offer. The discount calculator checks the arithmetic; it does not certify that an advertised reference price is accurate or that a coupon is eligible.

Use the discount calculator formula in a spreadsheet

If A2 holds the original price and B2 contains the number 20, use =A2*(1-B2/100) for the reduced price. Savings can be calculated with =A2-A2*(1-B2/100). If B2 is formatted as a percentage and contains 20%, its underlying value is already 0.20. In that case use =A2*(1-B2); dividing by 100 a second time would produce the wrong reduction.

For two rates entered as whole percentage numbers in B2 and C2, use =A2*(1-B2/100)*(1-C2/100). Round the final price to the currency's precision, then subtract it from the rounded original price to obtain matching savings. For a price list with many rows, copy the formula down and check a few rows with the online discount calculator before relying on the full sheet.

=A2*(1-B2/100)*(1-C2/100)

Accepted values and common input mistakes

The original price must be from zero to one billion; each discount must be between 0 and 100. Inputs may have up to six decimal places. Blank fields, negative prices, letters, currency symbols and rates above 100 show an error beside the relevant field. Invalid data clears previous prices and savings, so a stale result cannot be confused with a valid calculation for the new inputs.

Use only one decimal separator. The input 1,234 is interpreted as a decimal value, not one thousand two hundred thirty-four. Enter that larger amount as 1234 or 1 234. Do not mix commas and points in one input. A 0% discount leaves the price unchanged, while 100% makes the item price zero. A second discount cannot reduce the price further once the first has already removed the full amount.

Rounding, currency and calculation accuracy

The discount calculator retains the precision of the input through the percentage stages and rounds the final price at the end. Euros, dollars, pounds and Brazilian reais display two decimal places; yen and won display none. Displayed savings equal the rounded original price minus the rounded final price, keeping the two amounts consistent with the starting amount shown.

A store that rounds after each discount or on each line item may produce a slightly different total. For example, 79.90 minus 15% is 67.915, displayed as 67.92. Choosing a currency does not apply an exchange rate: 100 EUR and 100 USD are still numeric inputs of 100. For invoices, accounting or an actual order, check the seller's calculation and rounding convention.

What this calculator includes

Prices and percentages are processed locally in your browser without a remote calculation service. A shared link includes the entered values in its address, so avoid adding confidential information. The site may use technical or analytics services described in its privacy policy. Local calculation does not mean that the entire website has no such services.

The tool applies one or two percentage discounts to the same starting amount. It does not add sales tax, shipping, fees, future cashback or fixed-value coupons. For a more complex promotion, identify the eligible price first and compare the result with the actual checkout total afterward.

To find what percentage one amount represents, or check an increase from an initial value, use the general calculator's modules. Keep a discount calculation separate from a price change or removing included tax: each question uses a different comparison or base.

Discount calculator questions

How do I calculate 30% off?

Multiply the original price by 0.70. For a price of 80, the final amount is 56 and savings are 24. Enter 80 as the price and 30 as the first discount in the discount calculator; do not enter 0.30 in the percentage field.

Does 20% plus 10% equal 30% off?

Not when applied successively. The remaining price is 0.80 × 0.90 = 0.72 of the original, giving a 28% total reduction. A single 30% discount is different and must be stated as one reduction on the same original base.

Can I find a discount from two prices?

Yes. With a positive original price, calculate (original − final) / original × 100. A change from 200 to 150 is a 25% reduction. This tool starts with a percentage; the homepage's change-between-values module can help with the reverse comparison.

Does the discount calculator include tax and shipping?

The discount applies to exactly the price you enter. If that amount already includes tax, the result uses that inclusive base. The tool does not choose tax rates or add delivery charges; include those separately when checking the seller's total.

Why is my result one cent different?

The seller may round per item, per order line, or after each promotion. Here, the percentage stages retain precision and the final price is rounded at the end. Also check that the starting price and the order of any fixed-value coupons are identical.

How can I save an example without an account?

Select Copy link after entering valid values and keep the address. Reopening it restores the price, currency and rates. Copy result saves the amounts and formula as text instead. The discount calculator requires neither an account nor payment.
